Having had at this point in time been set up with two of the most unsuitable candidates I could ever imagine I arranged to have a sit down meeting with Mary to sort some issues out. Seriously it would have been easier to get a meeting with the Pope than it was to pin her down for a meeting. After Mary canceled 3 times in a row I sat in the office waiting room till she had time to see me (took 5 hours of waiting but I got to see her). The meeting was frosty but I left thinking we were at least looking on the same book shelf if not acutely on the same page yet.
So the next guy she set me up with was Mr Almost. Mr Almost on the phone was a pleasant enough guy who could hold a conversation and seemed like your average nice guy. The only things I remember about Mr Almost is that he was average as in he was average hight, average weight, had brownish coloured hair and blue eyes, owned his own home and business and was at the wanting to settle down and have babies stage of his life, another words a perfectly normal guy, which was nice considering my last two encounters.
We met for coffee and he was on time and the date was pleasant enough that when he offered to by me a second cup I didn’t say no. I wasn’t the slightest bit attracted to him but he was a nice guy and spending an afternoon with him drinking coffee etc was much more preferable to going home and dealing with any of the shit happening at the place I lived with the crazy housemates. At the end of the date I did the shake hands it was very nice to meet you thing, which is normally a good indicator that I will never see you again, made no mention of a second date since I had zero interest in this guy and went home.
I was a little surprised over the next couple of days he’d ring after work just to chat and since we’d hit it off in a friendly way I didn’t think anything of it other than a new friend had been made and a second date was never brought up. About 2 weeks after the original date I had left the house really early and gone to a local market to have breakfast and shop for my mums birthday present. I don’t remember mentioning this plan to Mr Almost but apparently I must of because he turned up while I was having breakfast for “our second date”. When he said that I did the WTF look since I hadn’t invited him to join me I was sure of that I’d deliberately left my house early to avoid bringing housemates as this was a mission to find a birthday present not a day out at the markets
For the rest of the morning he kept trying to hold my hand and if I looked at something for more than 2 seconds got all impatient and tried to pull me away. I was vaguely aware that he kept saying things like “just pick something so we can go do something else” and what not. Finally he pulled me aside and said
“I’m not having any fun I’m going now and if you don’t come with me we are never going out again”.
My crossed arms and response of “you promises” should have given him the biggest hint in the universe that I couldn’t have cared less. He then did the I’m going to count to 10 then I’m leaving, to which I looked at him and said don’t bother counting just leave and I turned around to walk off. He grab my arm as I left saying something like “don’t you just walk off like that, I mean it I’ll never speak to you again if you don’t come with me now!”
I went from the reasonably friendly person I normally am to ICE BITCH in a heart beat since I hate being grabbed by anyone. “Get your hands off me and leave this instant and if you ever try to talk to me again the response is NOT going to be friendly, I never wanted to go out with you for a second date in fact I would have been perfectly happy never to hear from you after the first date but apparently you didn’t figure that out” and then I turned around and walked off.
He must have bitched to Mary about my “embarrassing him in public” or something because she rang me and started off telling me off as if I was a 3 year old who hadn’t behaved correctly in public. I hung up on her and then rang her back about an hour later and I was extremely blunt about what I thought of her, the company she worked for, and the behaviour of Mr Almost on the weekend. I have no idea what her response was going to be because I hung up before she could respond however 3 days later I got a call from someone called Carmel informing me she was my new Client Liaison Officer.
Guess the “you can have access to me when ever you need to talk and as a gold member you can make an appointment to see me any time you like and we’ll work together to make sure this is a positive experience” speech at sign up was total crap. In the remaining 4 months of my contract I never actually met Carmel my new Client Liaison Officer because every appointment I made to see her she canceled 24 hours before the meeting with some emergency and I couldn’t be bothered sitting in the waiting room for 5 hours to finally get a meeting.
